Why This Matters

"EU region" does not mean "EU sovereign"

The CLOUD Act (2018) allows US authorities to compel any US-controlled company to produce data — regardless of where it's stored. This applies to AWS EU, Azure EU, and Google Cloud EU. The US parent company can be ordered to extract data from its European data centers.

Even "sovereign cloud" offerings from US companies (AWS European Sovereign Cloud, Oracle EU Sovereign Cloud) remain vulnerable because the CLOUD Act reaches through subsidiary structures to the US parent.

Why not just use Perplexity or ChatGPT?
Those tools process your queries on US-controlled infrastructure, accessible to US authorities under the CLOUD Act. If your research involves client-privileged, regulated, or competitively sensitive information, that's a jurisdictional risk — not just a privacy preference.
If it's encrypted so even you can't read it, how can the AI use it?
Your library is encrypted with keys generated on your device and held in its hardware security chip — we never have them. When you start a session, your device unlocks your library for that session only, and the AI works on it inside EU infrastructure we operate, with no third-party API in the path. Lock or disconnect, and access ends. At rest, your data is unreadable to everyone — including us. Full detail in the security architecture whitepaper.
What AI models do you use?
We run multiple open-source models on dedicated GPU servers in EU data centers — each selected for the task at hand. A reasoning model for analysis, a fast model for search queries, a large model for synthesis. No third-party inference API touches your data. For on-premise deployments, you can bring any models you choose.
What if I lose my device?
Enroll multiple devices, or print a recovery QR code protected by a password you choose. If all recovery methods are lost, your data is irrecoverable — by design.
How does the research compare to single-pass tools?
Single-pass tools (Perplexity, Google Deep Research) run one prompt through one model.
